The etiopathogenesis is multifactorial\, with different environmental\, genetic\, immune mediated\, and gut microbial factors playing an important role. The current therapy goals are to improve clinical symptoms\, control inflammation\, prevent complications\, and improve quality of life. The field of IBD therapeutics has seen tremendous improvements\, and the efficacy of new drug targets such as IL-12/IL-23\, the JAK/STAT pathway\, and S1P has been established. Extra-intestinal manifestations (EIMs) are a common complication of IBD\, affecting up to half of the patients.
